why are you dancing to the cortina?

  1. I believe many don't even know what a cortina is and what it is meant for. It is something that should be taught at tango classes/practicas but I don't think everyone gets the chance to learn about cortinas in those occassions. I think that whoever knows that you shouldn't dance to the cortinas, but rather get off the dance floor spliting from your dance partner of the last tanda and wait until the next tanda starts to start all over again, with the 'cabeceo' or whatever way people like to ask someone else to dance until the cortina comes once again. It's meant to give people a sign that it's time for a dance partner turnover which allows everyone to enjoy a dance...and it's also fun because this way everyone dances with different people and variety is good, it's interesting and also helps you to improve your dancing (well, not everyone may be interested in this or may think that they need any improvement, but the first 2 should still apply) ;-)

  2. Last time I started dancing to the cortina, was when I had just had a wonderful set of dances and got completely carried away in my eagerness to continue dancing. I did however stop when I realised what I was doing. :-)
